WHAT MAKES THERMO-TREATED ASH DECKING SO SPECIAL?

Thermally-modified decking is a cutting-edge approach to wood treatment, elevating the durability, stability, and aesthetic appeal of outdoor decking materials. Premium Ash Thermally Modified Decks are durable for 25 years due to the thermo-treatment process. Unlike pressure treatment, our Ash Decks is a 100% Green product. The equilibrium moisture content (EMC) is reduced to 4%.  The thermo-treatment changes the color of the wood to a brown tint that is consistent beyond the surface.

We use Clear Premium Grade Ash, then carefully mill boards, and then apply wood oil with UV protection (Hard Wax Oil) to all four sides.

Our Thermo-treateed Ash Decking is priced between composite and exotic woods, but it a way superior to all existing decking products on the market.

WHAT DIFFERS THERMO ASH DECKING FROM OTHER DECKING PRODUCTS?

  • Versus pressure-treated softwoods: Thermo Ash Decking is a 100% "Green" product that doesn’t crack, shrink and swell as pressure-treated lumber. Over its lifetime, it costs 3-4 times less.

  • Versus exotic woods: Thermo Ash Decking is much lighter in weight, easier to work with, more stable in size, and easier to work with.

  • Versus composite: Thermo Ash Decking is not overheating under sunlight, and it is a real wood.

  • Versus other suppliers of thermo-ash decking: Our Decking is 4-sided factory oiled, offered in fixed length (8' and 6'), and consistent in color.

ADVANTAGES OF FACORY OILING

  • Makes product ready to use;

  • Prevents fading of color under sunlight;

  • Prevents seasonal surface checking;

  • Makes wood grain sound and attractive;

  • Our free FOUR side oiling saves you $2-4/SF which contractors usually charge for ONE-side surface oiling on site; oiling of the back side is extremely important to increase the lifetime and performance of your decking.

INSTALLATION TIPS

  • Cut it, sand it, nail it, drill it, paint, or stain it as you would practically any standard-grade lumber, using the same standard tools.

  • Take into consideration that thermo-treated wood is drier (4% EMC), lighter in weight, and a little more brittle than non-treated wood.

  • Use a 16” span center-to-center for decks, 12” for stair treads, and 12” for decks and stairs in commercial applications. Keep a 1/4" gap between adjacent deck boards.

  • Direct ground contact is allowed where structural performance is not critical, and periodic drying of the surfaces is allowed.  For common applications, keep Ash Decking at least 2” above ground.

  • Saw speed will have an effect on the cut quality; generally, the higher the saw power, the better the cut quality.

  • The usage of self-tapping composite screws (stainless steel ones are the best) provides the best result, otherwise, pre-drill holes if use nails and screws.

  • Fasteners should be applied a minimum of 5/8" from the board edge and the board ends.

  • If using standard plastic or metal clips that require grooves, make small local grooves with the biscuit jointer tool to match the used clips.

  • The other option: use Camo Marksman Pro to avoid screw holes through the face of the boards.

  • A high-quality sealant with UV protection should be used after the first one to two years.
